The signs
What people are describing when they say they knew right away — and what that feeling can and cannot tell you.
Section last checked
People describe the same handful of things: a fast sense of recognition, an ease that usually takes months, a feeling of having met before. Those experiences are real and common, and nothing on this site treats them as silly.
What they are not is a test. A list of signs cannot tell you whether a person is good for you, whether the relationship will work, or whether either of you will still want it in three years. It describes an experience; the question of what to do about the experience is separate.
The strongest feeling of recognition in the world is compatible with a relationship that is wrong, unsafe, or simply not workable. That is not cynicism — it is the reason this section exists in its current form.

How to read this section
The feeling is real; the forecast is not
Recognition, ease, instant familiarity — all genuinely experienced. None of them predicts compatibility, and the pages here keep those two things apart on purpose.
Stories are assembled backwards
The "I knew from the first minute" account is usually written later, once the ending is known. That does not make it dishonest — it makes it a memory rather than evidence.
Intensity is the least reliable sign
The signals worth weight are ordinary ones: safety, respect, how a person handles your no. Intensity is the one most often mistaken for significance.
Where this section stops
No page in this section will hand you a verdict on your relationship, because no honest page could. What it can do is separate what you are feeling from what that feeling is capable of telling you.
One line is worth stating plainly: if the idea that someone is "meant" for you is the reason you are staying somewhere that frightens you, that is exactly the harm this section is written to prevent. A professional or a helpline in your country is the right reader for that, not another article.
